Ioannis Deliyannis - Personal Website

Dr Ioannis Deliyannis completed his undergraduate studies in 1997 (B.Sc Computer Science) and was subsequently offered a scholarship to pursue a Ph.D degree in the field of Interactive Multimedia (2002) at the Computer Science Department of University of Wales at Swansea. He worked within the Computational Fluid Dynamics research team as a research student under the supervision of Professors P. Townsend and M. F. Webster. His research work was largely related with multi-media applications, visualisation and web-based technologies applied to complex scientific fields such as Computational Rheology and the development of Educational Systems for Research and Interactive Learning. This work was truly ground-breaking in the field forming a highly respected thesis on the subject. It led to wide public expose and a deeper understanding of the systems involved. This work is actively utilised and extended under the Institute for Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics (INNFM) and Swansea CFD research groups.
Dr Ioannis Deliyannis started working at Ionian University at 2004 teaching at the Department of Informatics and the Department of Audio and Visual Arts. Today he is an appointed Assistant Professor and Faculty Member of the Department of Audiovisual Arts at Ionian University, Corfu, Greece.
His research interests include the application of Interactive and Multimedia Communication Technologies in the area of AudioVisual Arts. He is the author of a series of journal and conference publications in the above fields, followed by a series of books targeting the experimental and creative aspects of the technologies involved.
RESEARCH PROFILE
Book Title: "Η Κοινωνία της Πληροφορίας και ο Ρόλος των Διαδραστικών Πολυμέσων" written in Greek
The first book named “Η Κοινωνία της Πληροφορίας και ο Ρόλος των Διαδραστικών Πολυμέσων” is a book about Information Society and the Role of Interactive Multimedia, Fagotto Books, 2006, ISBN 960-7075-99-4 targets the technologies of Information Society, presenting their unique characteristics, while describing how they can be integrated into higher-order systems. To those without much experience in everyday technologies such as computers, mobile devices, broadcast networks and communications, it offers a comprehensive introduction with practical examples, complete with full references for further research.
Book Title: "Διαδραστικά Πολυμέσα και Ψηφιακή Τεχνολογία στις Τέχνες" written in Greek
The second book entitled “Διαδραστικά Πολυμέσα και Ψηφιακή Τεχνολογία στις Τέχνες” is a book about Interactive Multimedia and Digital Technology for the Arts, Fagotto Books, 2007, ISBN 978-960-6685-06-4 offers a unique insight for the reader who wishes to utilise various methodologies and strategies in the design of innovative computer-aided art forms. It presents how technologies of Multimedia, Networks and Interaction may be combined, while describing their limitations. It concludes by presenting various forms of art - complete with examples - which utilised new mediums, techniques, technologies and ideas since 1945.
Book Title: "Interactive Multimedia Systems for Science and Rheology" written in English
The third book entitled “Interactive Multimedia Systems for Science and Rheology” based on the 2002 Ph.D was published in 2011 by VDM Verlag Dr. Müller, Germany, enabling the reader to view a number of case studies featuring interactive interrogation of complex rheological data using media-rich adaptive multimedia technologies. The same technological basis is employed today in order to implement new media artwork systems featuring adaptive content.
Book Title: "Interactive Multimedia" written in English
The fourth edited book entitled “Interactive Multimedia” was published in 2012 by Intech, ISBN 979-953-307-623-1. It offers a unique insight on the research aspects of interactive multimedia, as it organises and presents novel scientific work, proven methodologies and interdisciplinary case studies that exhibit important advances under the areas of Interfaces and Interaction, Interactive Multimedia Learning, Teaching and Competence Diagnosis Systems, Interactive TV, Film and Multimedia Production and Video Processing. In that respect, interaction is identified as the common ingredient across these domains, offering the reader the ability to identify, isolate and utilise interdisciplinary solutions into the development of new interactive systems.
Book Title: "Experimental Multimedia Systems for Interactivity and Strategic Innovation" written in English
The fifth edited book entitled "Experimental Multimedia Systems for Interactivity and Strategic Innovation", ISBN 978-146-668-659-5 was published by IGI Global in the US in 2016. The text presents the next evolutionary step of multimedia where interactivity meets targeted creativity and experimentation. In providing the basic framework for experimental multimedia through case studies that allow the reader to appreciate the design of multimedia systems, this publication’s audience extends beyond new media artists to scientists, publishers, and developers who wish to extend their system designs to offer adaptive capabilities combined with multimedia content and dynamic interaction. This publication presents a collection of carefully selected theoretical and applied research chapters with a focus on matters including, but not limited to, aesthetics in publishing, e-health systems, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, human-computer interaction, interactive multimedia, and new media curation.
Book Title: "Ανάπτυξη Παιχνιδιών: Σχεδιασμός Διαδραστικής Αφήγησης, Θεωρίες, Τάσεις και Παραδείγματα" written in Greek
The sixth book entitled "Ανάπτυξη Παιχνιδιών: Σχεδιασμός Διαδραστικής Αφήγησης, Θεωρίες, Τάσεις και Παραδείγματα", Fagotto Books, ISBN 978-960-6685-75-0 is a book on Game Development and the design of interactivity, that answers the question "Why people play games". It aims to help developers design games which retain the interest of the players and embed varying levels of complexity and interaction.
